Working on a slow computer can be troublesome. Whenever you want to perform any task; the files open very slowly which makes the work delay. If you want to work reliably then you should check for all the issues which are slowing down the system and then repair them.
Check for RAM
The system slows down when the user’s device has low RAM. Back in the day, the programs required less amount of RAM. Those programs easily worked under 4 GB RAM. But today, most of the applications require more RAM to perform. Even for online gaming, you can’t play until you have all these high specifications. If you use advanced programs on the system then you need to increase the RAM. Once you increase the memory, your device will start running at a good speed.
Check the free hard-disk
The speed of your device also depends on the free hard disk space. When the free space on your hard disk decreases; the system starts lagging. Users should increase the hard disk to improve the speed. You can use an SSD as it works better. Users can also purchase an external HD and transfer all the data which they don’t use often. After transferring the data, delete it on your device and you will get a good amount of free space. Now the system works way better.
Scan the computer to remove malware
Malware can also slow down the device. Viruses and other threats multiply on the system and start eating your RAM. These threats also corrupt many of your system files and cause errors. The system won’t work correctly until you remove all these viruses from the device. You can use an inbuilt scanning service like Defender for removing threats. But various threats can be removed by advanced features. Users can install a personal antivirus program to remove these threats. While using antivirus, some users reported that McAfee real time scanning slows down computer. This occurs when there are lots of programs running on startup. Whenever a user opens a program, McAfee starts scanning and loads the program only when it is safe. But if you don’t want to scan the program every time you access it then you can remove the McAfee antivirus from startup. But you should run a full system scan daily to remove all dangerous threats from the system.
Remove the malicious programs
If the speed of your device decreases after installation of a particular program then remove it. It occurs when the program is malicious. People often install free applications for gaming or editing. These programs can be very malicious. They can interrupt other programs and files and slow down the device. Some malicious programs can also spread Trojans or adware on the system. They can steal your data and can monitor all the activities. If the program is not reliable then immediately uninstall it from the system. Remove all its files and then provide a full system scan.
Update your OS and programs
The device starts lagging and showing errors when the operating system is outdated. When a new threat appears; OS provides a new update as a fixed patch. If your system is outdated then it won’t work correctly. Many of the programs and functions will start showing errors and the system will run slowly. Open the Update and Security page on the system and then tap on the Update button. If it is available and the internet connection is smooth then the update will get installed. After the OS, check for all installed programs. Update all those programs and then your device’s speed will get improved.
Remove device junk files
Your system can accumulate lots of junk for the programs. When you open a program, temp files are created. Later, these files become junk. Users should always remove these files from the system as they use the hard disk, RAM and can also interrupt with other programs. Remove all these temporary files and then check for other junk. Users can access the cleanmgr utility to remove the junk files from the system. After removing all these files; the system will start running at a good speed.
Remove programs from startup
There are certain programs that start running at the startup. These programs run in the background and accumulate RAM cycles. When the system seems slow; check for the startup programs. Remove the unnecessary programs from the startup list and restart the device.
